Though there is no single best marching band in the world, I think it's safe to say that the Blue Devils come pretty close.

This is technically not an answer to your question, but I want to clarify something. Bigger does not always mean better. As far as judged competitions, etc., the larger band will probably rank higher for only one reason, with a bigger band, mistakes are much less noticeable. But it also means that they are at a disadvantage. With more people, it is also much more difficult to work as one force, which is the very thing that makes a good marching band a good marching band. Besides, it's not the size, it's how you use it... All things considered, the University of Michigan and the University of Notre Dame Marching Bands seem to be the best. They can be found in Ann Arbor, Michigan and South Bend, Indiana

If you look up the definition of sport it will say "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitave nature" Marching Band Requires Skill And phyisical prowess (marching) and also competes against other bands to see who is the best in the State
Since the 2008 college football season, the James Madison Marching Royal Dukes have regarded as the nation's largest collegiate marching band with a staggering 474 members. The MRD's have been featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2001 and 2008, Presidential Inaugurations for President Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and the 1983 NFC Title Football game between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. The MRD's have also been a recipient of the "Sudler Trophy" which is the highest honor available for a collegiate marching band, and the first band to ever receive it as a D1-AA school.
