Both Springsteen and BSB sold the same amount; however, the Backstreet Boys sold the same amount in a much shorter time period, so technically they are more popular in the past 20 years (if not in general).
Billy Joel did something called "Until the Night" which is on the 52nd Street album. What's cool about it is that the word on the street was that Bruce Springsteen did the backing vocals but is not credited anywhere.
