I think that "Slash" is the best male guitarist. Some people might disagree and say it is Chuck Berry, it is about even. But the best woman guitarist of all time is Orianthi she even played with M.J before her hit song "According To You" came out.

I would say the best guitar players ever lived are Jimi Hendrix(of course), SRV(Stevie Ray Vaughan), Eric Clapton and Django Reinhardt(played the guitar almost one-handed), and Duane Allman(could play guitar like Clapton when he was just about 19 years old). The only guitar players who come somehow close to this five maybe are Carlos Santana, Jimmy Paige, Angus Young, Chuck Berry, George Harrison, Eddie Van Halen, BB King and George Benson, even though nobody of them could ever reach Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Allman or Reinhardt.

Answer: You can NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER say whom the best guitarist in the world is. Simply because there are so many different styles of guitar playing and there are so many different ways of using the guitar, I mean one person could be the fastest at shredding likks in the world and somebody else could be the best at writing songs. oh by the way Steve vai is a tosser and not a real guitarist =]

Some guy named Dimebag Darrell (RIP) who was the guitarist of PanterA and made amazing riffs. But that's just my opinion, it is between Jimi Hendrix and Slash.
