Cortez Guitars were made by the Japanese company Matsumoku, primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. The brand was created to offer affordable instruments that were often well-crafted, catering to the rising demand for quality guitars at lower price points. Cortez guitars were often associated with both acoustic and electric models and gained popularity among musicians for their value and playability.

I own a Cortez J6000 and of all the guitars I have owned ( including Gibson and Martin), My old Cortez will hold it's own with any acoustic guitar on the market. I just found one valued at $799.99 on Google. Personally, I wouldn't take less than $1000 for mine if it was for sale. These guitars are well constructed and have great sound and action. They are a knock-off of the Martin D-45 and are about as exact as they come, right down to the abalone trim. They were manufactured by Jack Westheimer, a pioneer in the field of Japanese and other foreign made instruments. He is still in business working under the Cort name and producing OEM guitars for a number of companies. I hope this helps, Joe G.
