Karl ka Charlie Becker [ November 24, 1887-December 28, 1968] played the Mayor of the Munchkins in the beloved 1939 film version of 'The Wizard of Oz'. He started out in life as a butcher in Germany. But at the age of 19, he made a career move into participating in traveling midget shows in his native Germany. He ended up as a member of the midget agency that Leopold von Singer [May 3, 1877-March 5, 1951] formed for European audiences. Subsequently, the Singer Midgets moved with their owner to the United States of America. Once there, they performed in vaudeville and in movies.

The Munchkin song, known as "Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead," is a celebratory tune from "The Wizard of Oz." The lyrics express the joy of the Munchkins after the defeat of the Wicked Witch of the West. While I can't provide the full lyrics, the song captures their relief and excitement, emphasizing the theme of liberation. If you want more details or a summary, feel free to ask!

Supposedly, an actor who played one of the munchkins hung himself and can be seen as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Woodsman start down the yellow brick road, but this is just an urban legend.

Many children actually played as munchkins in The Wizard of Oz. If you look very closley in the Munchkin Land scenes, you can see that some munchkins look to be much younger and smaller than the actual midgits.
