a standard bass guitar has four thick strings ususally played one at a time to cover the lower notes (left hand keys of the piano) and usually used to help drive the beat. A standard normal guitar has six strings usually played multiple string at a time (chords) to privide the famework melody (right hand keys on the piano) for vocals and/or soloes (usually a standard guitar played one string at a time)
