Back in the early 50s Slim performed and recorded with Hoot Rains. In the 60s a variety of steel Guitarists were used - including Jerry byrd, Pete Drake and others, although Slim did not use steel on all his recordings. He toured South Africa in 1965 and used Lester Fry.

In 1970 Slim returned to the UK and amazed everyone by breaking box office records throughout the country over many ensuing tours. In those years he used Jerry West - an Englishman - on his tours and on a few recordings made in the UK. West was one of the few who accurately recreated the original "Singing Guitar" sound.

With the unparallelled success of the Suffolk Marketing TV LP compilation "All My Best" in the early 80s, Slim's career enjoyed a collosal revival and he eventually set up his own group with whom he did shows and made recordings. Jimmy Crawford worked with him a lot during that time.

Now well into his 80s but still in good voice, Slim perfortms only occasionally these days. He has a group of musicians that he likes to work with but I do not know who the steel guitarist is. I do know that slim is of the view that he is one of the best he has worked with.
