Johnny Best was a jazz and swing trumpeter known for having a broad-toned style on that instrument. He performed with the top bands of the 1930s and 1940s, in particular, with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Glenn Miller. One of his most famous solos was on the Miller recording of "Stardust". He was seriously injured in a fall and spent much of his later life in a wheelchair. In spite of his injury he continued to perform regularly, sometimes re-creating his earlier Miller performances as a guest star with Tex Beneke's orchestra.
