In 1964, ringo, the drummer, had throat surgery after he had to get his tonsils taken out, and as a result, he could not go on tour for a while. Jimmy Nicels took his place for the brief time he was gone. Almost immediately after his release from hospital, he announced his marriage to his long time girlfriend, Maureen. He had known her before The Beatles came about, and their marriage lasted a long time.
