The 3/4 retreat march, 'Bloody fields of Flanders', was written by John McLellan.
Born in Dunoon, Scotland, on August 08, 1875, John (Jock) McLellan joined the Highland Light Infantry in 1892. He received the DCM for gallantry in the Boer War, and after leaving the army joined the Govan Police Pipe Band in Glasgow, before returning to his birthplace.
McLellan later served in World War One, and became Pipe Major of the 8th Argyllshire Battalion.
He died in 1949, in Dunoon, shortly before his 74th birthday.
