Are you able to copy accurately what you hear on the radio? Do people other than indulgent parents encourage you to continue with your singing? Do you always sing songs you hear and practice them over and again to get them as best you can? Have you recorded yourself and been self critical so that next time you do it better? Can you sing a whole line without taking a second breath, this needs practice. Letting air in your lungs go out smoothly until the end of the phrase. Can you modulate your voice in the same way as a violinist wobbles her finger on the string to get that lovely slow oscillation. Do not copy all modern girl singers who put a large number of grace notes into their phrases. It is a fashion that will fade, believe me. If you are a girl listen to someone like Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell,JoanBaez, Ella Fitzgerald, Dionne Warwick,Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. If you are male listen to Nat King Cole, Tim Hardin, BB King, John Lennon,Paul McCartney. See if you can approximate their performance. When you have done all this go to a recommended voice coach and get their opinion. good luck.
