While Whitney Houston's fans love her and miss her even now, it is not clear that she changed the world. She was a popular entertainer and actress who, sadly, battled addiction and died too young. She had a number of hit records (including one song, "I Will Always Love You," that was #1 for 13 weeks); she won Grammy awards, starred in several movies, and was widely respected in pop music for her amazing voice. But it is not accurate to say she changed the world-- rather, her success and her fame seems to have changed her, leading to drug and alcohol abuse and a tragic death.

Aretha Franklin was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, TN, but spent most of her childhood in Detroit Michigian. Her parents had a troubled relationship and and split up when Aretha was six. Her mother subsequently had a heartattach when Aretha was ten and died. Her father was a well known preacher who moved them around a lot. Aretha became well-known for her impressive vocals and talent at the piano, and signed a record deal with Battle Records at the age of fourteen.
Aretha moved away from her gospel roots as she grew older. By the time she was sixteen she had two children, and a contract with Columbia Records by 1960.

When Aretha Franklin covered this Otis Redding song, she put a bit of a sexual spin to it. "What you want, baby I got it." Phrases such as "Sock it to me" and "Whip it to me" had sexual connotations in the 60's. She sang the song as a woman who goes out and works all day to support her man and she expects a little "attention" when she comes home. So "Respect" can be anything the singer expects in return as part of a relationship.MP

Aretha's legendary artistic genius was nearly matched by her iconic love for eccentricty in fashion. And as everchanging and evolving as her fashion choices were throughout the years, so was her bust size, which fluctuated quite regularly alongside her weight. As a naturally buxom and curvy woman, Aretha's bra size varied from a modest 34 C during her early 20's to a more than generous 46G at her heaviest. Her most common bra size, however, also coincided with her most common dress size of a 14, which was a 44F. This was also the most common size bra she wore during most of the final ten years of her life until her last year when she dropped a tremendous amount of weight and weighed only 85 lbs. Her bra and dress size that final year is not known to me, unfortunately.
