Here is a fragment of why he wrote his book The Fire Within.
Chris d'Lacey wrote The Fire Within because one day, he was walking through a street when he came upon some craft shops. As he was walking, he saw a shop selling small clay dragons. A lady called Valerie Chivers owned the shop and made the dragons herself. Chris realy wanted to buy one, but he didn't have much money with him. So Valerie pointed him to the "Casualty Corner" where she sold the slightly broken dragons for a cheaper price. The "Casualty Corner" had many dragons, each of them were broken in a way, a chiped scale, a stubbed toe, or a broken ear. Then, Chris saw a little dragon holding a pencil and pad with its topknot ( a topknot is the spine on a dragons head) missing, but it was no less beautiful. This was Chris's "Gadzooks".
