Why did Jason newsted leave metallica?

Jason decided to give his life to music, other members had familys. This meant metallica were not going at it full time as they used to, leaving large amounts of spare time between shows and recording. Jason, not really having much more, needed some thing else to do in this time, he wanted to do a side project (another band). James told him he couldent and arguments followed. Jason then decided to leave.

He felt more and more that he wasn't respected enough and was always the one who got teased. He also wanted to start doing other things, like recording other songs with bands like Echobrain. But he wasn't that great of a bassist and didn't fit with Metallica that much. Rob Trujillo (current Metallica bassist) is amazing though! He's an awesomely talented bassist and fits in with Metallica much more than Jason did.

Metallica's Jason Newstead who was Bass for the Albums "And Justice For All", Metallica (Black), Load, Reload & Garage Inc. Jason Newstead quit because apart of all the problems he had with the other band member (Lars, James), the band wanted to take a break from metallica and Jason did not want to. Also he wanted to put out an album of a side project called "Echobrain", James wont let him release it, so he choose to leave the band just to release the album. Jason also was recording another side project "Voivod". He later tried to reincorporate back in the band but his offer was denied.

According to the Metallica documentary "Some Kind of Monster", Newsted left the band because James Hetfield allegedly would not let him work on side projects such as Newsted's Echobrain.
