Can you go to an orphanage instead of foster care?

In the US, orphanage is an obsolete term, and instead children in the care of the state are cared for in either foster homes or group homes; in both cases, you are in foster care. In general, the preference of the system is to put children in care into foster homes instead of group homes whenever possible. If you really wish to reside in a group home instead of a foster home, you should talk to your case worker, therapist and/or Guardian at Litem (or Attourney At Litem)

Karaoke: The Japanese Sensation that Swept the Globe?

Karaoke, once just a Japanese sensation, has become more popular in recent decades. It allows amateur singers to experience the fun and excitement of being on stage in front of an audience while in a supportive and lively environment. Would-be pop stars, usually slightly intoxicated, belt out tunes while reading the lyrics off a monitor. All the while, music plays in the background. This experience has become so popular, some establishments have opened karaoke bars or offered karaoke nights to attract customers. Now almost every professional DJ packs a karaoke machine with them to events and parties. It’s interesting to postulate what makes the karaoke experience so enjoyable. Perhaps it is due to the shedding of social inhibitions performed when singing out loud in front of a group of strangers. Perhaps it is the freedom of knowing that no matter how bad a person may perform, their audience will still love them. Whatever the reason, karaoke appeals to a large number of demographics. Everyone, be they seniors at prom, soccer moms, business people, or elderly grandparents enjoy karaoke night. People adore karaoke so much, they have even welcomed it into their dwellings. Not only are karaoke machines available for purchase at an affordable price, but now complete video games have been built around the genre. Games like Pop Star or Rock Band allow friends and family to perform their favorite hits in the comfort of their own homes. Walk down the streets of a college town and it won’t be unusual to hear at least one domicile crooning out songs late into the evening. These derivatives, as fun as they might be, may never be able to fully replace the true karaoke experience. The connection between karaoke singer and audience is something that can never be superseded. Because of this, karaoke night may never be displaced in our hearts and in our society. What started as a Japanese past-time has become a global phenomenon.
