But I would assume swallowing liquids would be much easier than swallowing solids with your mouth open, for the simple fact that you have less control over the tongue when its not touching the roof of your mouth. for the same reason any band has 2 guitarists. They can harmonize off each other and play different parts. In a live perfformance setting, during the guitar solo, having a second guitarist playing the rhythm section 'fills' the sound...otherwise it would sound empty.
