It would be foolish to generalize from one set of parents to all people who happen to have children. If my children were interested in music (one of them is) or acting, I would support him without crowding him, pay for instruments and lessons until he could pay for his own, praise his accomplishments, go to his shows now and then and clap and cheer like mad, and brag about him in my Christmas cards to friends. I am no more "all parents" than yours are.
If the question is why do your parents feel that way, it seems like a good topic for a reasonable, grown-up conversation in which you outline your plans to them, tell them what you intend to do to accomplish them, tell them exactly how you would like them to support you, and give them good-faith evidence of how you intend to earn and sustain their confidence, such as by keeping up your grades and taking a responsible role in the household. Do you want the things you want enough to give it a shot?
