The only thing I can think of without getting inside the case is possibley one or more of the mounting bolts for you Transfer case to the frame may be broken or loose. This could become a major problem if not fixed quickly. the only other thing would be to check the ujoints along the driveshaft especially the ones closest to the transfer case. Crawl under when the truck is NOT running and wiggle the drive shafts or tried turning them back and forth to see if there is an unusual amount of slack. Anything beyond those things is beyond me, I Personally have a 3 inch lifted 92 Cherokee and have been fighting the vibration bug since I put the lift in
chances are there is something loose in the transfer case. If you check and find out that is true then you may need to get a new transfer case.
By the time that happens... well even not telling us the make year or model .. or engine size, or how long it's been happening, or anything else about the vehicle. Once your experiencing these symptoms, it's too late. Your transfer case is gone, you need a new one. Go buy one, and have it installed.. or do it yourself, but your going to get hurt.
The transmission shifts through gears as your engine rpm increases and your transfer case engages and disengages your jeep in and out of 4 wheel drive. Your transfer case also has gears for 4x4 high or low.
the viscous is located inside the transfer case... you need to pull the transfer case out and split it open. While you are there you might as well throw a fresh chain and bearings into the transfer case as well.
A computer tower may make a surging noise rather than a constant humming noise if the case's screws are not properly tightened. Another reason for such a surging noise is the imminent failure of a fan.
It could be the U joints from the transfer case causing the problem.
A bad transmount or transfer case .
Some people have reported a clicking noise in the transfer case when it's low on fluid, so check the level. If the level is fine, use a screen to drain the fluid through and watch for metal flakes. If you find them, the transfer case would need to be rebuilt.
bad transfer case
The noise may be the drive Cain in the 4 wheel drive transfer case . It stretches with age and can hit againt the transfer case sides .Makes a rattling sound . Most noticed will stopped ib gear .
My jeep makes this noise sometimes too the only thing I can tell you is check the transfer case fluid then if it doesn't stop make sure it's not something more serious like u joints or your transfer case itself, but it's most likely the transfer case fluid
sound like you need both differential bearings THERE IS A TSB FOR THE CHEROKEE SPORT THE GRINDING NOISE IN THE TRANSFER CASE AT ABOUT 10-35 MPH IS CAUSED BY THE FLUID PUMP IN SIDE THE TANSFER CASE JEEP HAS A NEW MODEL WITH MORE CAPACITY AND A DIFFERENT FLUID FOR IT ATF+4
Transfer case pump grinding a hole through the casing, U-Joints, bearings.
No.
Greetings, I just had the same issue with my Ford Excursion but was doing the clicking noise in reverse and in either 2 wheel drive or 4X4. I went under and checke4d the transfer case shift motor and found the noise coming from there. Changed it and problem solved. Just something to check out. Kenny 130256405201 check out this E-Bay number ( Item # ) Pretty cheap on there for the motor Answer If the noise is coming from inside, the chain has failed.
Sounds like a problem with the transfer case, but doesn'tnecessarily mean the whole thing is bad. Sounds like just the gears used in 4H so you may be able to repair and place certain parts within the transfer case. Depending on how mechanical you are, it may be cheaper just to replace the whole thing with a different, used TC.
I had a 2000 Explorer with a grinding noise coming from the front . It my case, it was the axle bearing assembly on both sides. They are around 200 per side to purchase.
