Why is 2001 Jeep Cherokee airbag light coming on?

I had the same problem happen to my 1995 Nissan Maxima. when i twas put on the machine at the dealership, allegedly, it could be a bad airbag control sending unit. cheapest i found the part (once) was 115 dollars. from the dealer it's 800-1150. .

I just had this same problem and it was the Alternator.

I can be different issues, first; if is the light on the Instrumental panel you need to get the front sensor checked, must of the time located close to the radiator or front bumper. It can be also a soft connection of the wires. If is the passenger side light check for a soft connection under the pass seat. If you seat on the seat and the light still showing air bag off you need to take ur car to the dealer because is safety hazard and must of the time is a free repair duo to safety criticals

It could be due to an electrical short with your dash lights, assuming your airbag hasn't deployed... I had a 2000 Toyota Celica that had that same problem, I had it diagnosed and the auto electrician narrowed it down to this bunch of cords that light your dash and connect with your cars computer. I would suggest you go to a auto electrician vice go to your general mechanic because they are better trained to fix this type of problem. A general mechanic will most likely suggest you replace the whole set of wires, which can be pretty costly.

Problem with the SRS. Not a DIY repair. Take it to a professional. Working with the SRS, is very dangerous, so do not attempt this repair.

The airbag computer has detected a malfunction and set a code. You need to bring it to a qualified repair shop.
