First, it only seems that way-- as with any Pop Music star, some people can't stand their music, while others adore it. In the case of Taylor Swift, whether you personally like her music or not, she has caught the attention of millions of fans of top-40 and country-rock. A talented singer-songwriter and a very effective performer, she has had a number of hit songs (including "Love Story," "You Belong to Me," "Back to December," and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together") and seems especially able to articulate the feelings of teenaged girls about love and romance (although they are not her total audience-- many young men and plenty of adults find her songs catchy and entertaining, and they sound good on the radio).

Taylor Swift has won a number of awards and even been featured in a piece on 60 Minutes; she also uses social media very effectively, keeping in touch with fans via Twitter. Because she has dated several male celebrities, she has gained further attention from fan magazines and blogs; the fact that some of her songs are supposed to be about her failed relationships is another reason these publications follow what she is up to. How long she will continue to be famous is difficult to say, but she has certainly maintained her popularity for the past few years and continues to write and sing hit songs that her fans can relate to. And while some people cannot stand her music, they are currently outnumbered by those who enjoy it.
