Why is the Switchfoot no longer considered a 'Christian band'?

They were never fully "Christian" but a lot of their songs have great meanings and play on Christian stations.

Yes and No. When Switchfoot first got started they didn't intend to be a Christian band. The members of Switchfoot are all Christians.Later, after their song played on Christian radio station and got lots of Christian listeners, they pretty much became a Christian band. But, they don't really call themselves a Christian band.I am a Christian and I absolutely love their music. They've got good, solid Jesus-pleasing lyrics.Switchfoot is a band coming out of San Diego, California. Their lead singer, Jon Foreman is a very devoted Christian and the music that he writes always has some element of Christianity in it. They do not want to be known only as a Christian band though because that boxes them in (in a way) and gives them a different reputation.They are like many other Christian artist they don't call themselves a christian band, the members are just Christians.Switchfoot and many other Christian bands got together and said that they wouldn't consider themselves Christian because it's the only music that is based on lyrics.They answered this questions themselves in an interview:"If we're going to define our music it would just be honest music for thinking people. We've always called ourselves a rock band and tried to stay away from anything that would limit our audience."They have a love for music & that's what drives them -- making great music. They just happen to be Christians so some of their songs reflect their spiritual sides. Their focus is not necessarily to praise God in all their music. so is that right, wrong, or what is it....?Sounds like being Christians to them is an after thought. my personal opinion and based on what I've learned so far from the word of God, being a Christian should be front and center in all aspects of your life.To Read their interview, a link is below.Definitely!
