Pop Music is absolutely NOT unique! (In my humble opinion! lol) Pop is what is played on radio which reaches the masses & tries to satisfy the young (& impressionable). Old pop: 60's, 70's & 80's still is popular among older folks. Pop music sometimes employs "the hook", catchy words repeated in the chorus part of the song along with a cool musical riff that sets it apart from the verses of the song. Bottom line: it sells!
People can develop their own timbre, or tonal quality. Their own distinctive sound in their voice- this is how singers can be recognised on the radio or something, even if they use the same techniques.
