Some studies have actually shown an increase in IQ among children who study music. But more importantly, sense of achievement and stimulation of the creativity can make anyone feel better about them selves. This doesn't have to be music, of course. A more recent study show that drama education is great for improving peoples cognitive skills.

Yes. Music allows much more practical everyday skills that be learned from a young age. Cognitive stimulation, self-expression, self-awareness, or increased motor movements are just some of the goals that music therapy can relate to and the music is simply a tool to achieve these. Listening to music ables children with cerebral palsy to promote music as an effective tool for language development and communication skills, expressing feelings and develop a sense of rhythm.

Most children diagnosed with autism or Asperger's lack the social skills that make them play a full and enabling other social situations participation. Interestingly, many children with autism show an increased interest in music. While they just can not verbally communicate with others, music is a way for many autistic people to express themselves and communicate in a non-verbal, non-threatening manner ways. Listening to music brings people into ease, so that for progress in social interactions follow!

Artistic education like music and painting and sculpture help people become well-rounded and more talented. Music, especially, helps people to use more of their brains and to learn more easily.

Here are some other reasons to learn music and other arts:

  • You have greater self-confidence because you've learned something many people can't do
  • You are able to deal with stress better because you have new ways to relax
  • You'll have a great way to entertain yourself and your friends
  • Learning anything makes you smarter and makes it easier to learn other things

Why should kids take a musical instrument should it be mandatory to take at least 1 musical instrument?

they should take a musical instrument because it's a good experience and some say it improves knowledge and that kids who take up a band instrument, tend to score higher on their SAT's if that matters to you.i don't think it has to be mandatory, they shouldn't be forced to. i think you should want to learn an instrument.i'd also recommend an instrument that's not as popular as the others or one that's in demand for the specific group. like, flutes are really popular, so there comes a time when the kid has to get seated based on skill and knowledge of the instrument. if there are a lot of other people that play the instrument, the competition will be stiff. so pick an instrument that's not too hard to pick up and that is well suited for the student.hope that helped.:]
