it:s called the death wobble and it is a common occurance in jeeps of all ages!!! You should check your shocks, your steering damper and your track bar specificaly the mount metal bushing!
nect thing to do is to check drive shaft u=joints for wear or lack of lubrication, then have drive shaft checked and rebalanced
I just went through this during the rebuild of my 92. After balancing my wheels and replacing a bad u-joint I still had a shimmy starting around 45 mph. Depending on road conditions it would get to the point of having to stop the vehicle to stop the shimmy. I started checking the front end and found the shimmy dampner bad and the track bar had a small amount of play at the joint end (closest to the steering box). After replacing both, the shimmy is gone, drives straight and smooth! You can pick up both parts from Advance Auto parts for approx $130. The shimmy damper will run you about $35 if you want to try that first.
The same thing happened to me last year, chances are you blew a cylinder. You should get that fixed soon because it also makes it so you're basically throwing gas out the window.
Tire, wheel, alignment, brake rotor,........
Tire/wheel balance, worn/loose steering components,
It could be your bearing are bad.
you would have to open it up to find out. But watch out, if you plan on swapping. i think the scrambler front end was a high pinion Dana 30. the grand is a low pinion Dana 30. i don't know if the ring and pinion are built the same. anyway, most grands came in 3.55 or 3.73
Look for the answer online at autozone ,under repair info.
call a dealer parts dept with the last 9 of the VIN and they will tell you
1) It's a Grand Cherokee. The frond end was designed in 1939. 2) have your tires checked on a machine that does road-force compensation.
no, they are entirely different vehicles
cv joints
If 4x4, replace steering dampner that is a bandaid, is not addressing the real problem. could be worn or bent steering parts, bad ujoints, out of alignment or bent or unbalenced wheel.
my jeep was doing this and they told me all this stuff that could be wrong with it and i got my tires rotated and it fixed the problem..
All Jeep XJ's have front and rear metal bumpers. Generally equiped with plastic end guards.
If it is a full time 4wd it will not turn easily.
how do i remove the front bumper and small splash guard underneath it or does the shield have to be removed at all?
2 possible issues, warped brake disc, or failing steering dampner.
first check the front end steering. idler arm is usually the culprit.
Under the front end of the passenger side cylinder head.
No. The axles & suspension are completely different.
