Most Country Music performers didn't go to college. I know Josh Turner (his song - Just to Be Your Man and others) went to college and studied music.
Your talent as a performer is more important than having a college education. The people who handle your career aren't going to be impressed by your Phd. The diploma won't help you get a singing job or a record contract. You just need to have talent.
You might ask yourself what kind of occupation you would like to pursue in case the music career wasn't a success. This will give you some ideas for selecting your major.
