Either your cell phone screen has had the wires knocked loose or the screen is broken all together. I've heard you can buy the LCD screens for cell phones a lot cheaper than buying a new one. If not you may have to buy a new phone.
I had a phone do this and believe it or not if yours is having the same problem as mine you can put it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes and get about 5 minutes of screen time to recover important messages or contacts. I dont know why but being a computer nerd I figured a deep freeze may help and it did!
