I'm sorry, the polar bears are definiately NOT dying. in fact, their population has grown in the past few years and they are in no danger of extinction. Yes, some environmental groups say they are endangered but they are not.
I have tried to find such a chart, but no luck yet. :) I will keep looking!

You are definitely right. We have to look back a few decades for a better track record of their population. I did a bit of digging and found these links..
Looks like they have increased from 5,000 in the 1950's, to 20-25,000 in 2005..
