The digestive system consists of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and the anus. To further elaborate, let me start off with the mouth. The mouth consists of teeth, tongue and a little further is the salivery glands. the teeth goes through mechanical digestion as it chews food into smaller pieces. The tongue then rolls the chewed food into a bolus. The saliva contains water which moistens and makes food into a paste, mucus which lubricates swallowing and amylase which begins the digestion of starch into maltose. (Amylase is actually a carbohydrase). The oesophagus moves food along through a process called peristalsis. Well, this process is conducted through antagonistic contractions and relaxations of circular and longitudinal muscles. the stomach and small intestine contains large molecules which are needed to be broken down into smaller ones by enzyme. The large intestine stores undigested food and faeces is passed out through the anus. Yup, that's all. Hope it'll prove to be helpful!
