Serious complications from an MVD include Death (.1%), Stroke (1%), Hearing loss (3%) and facial weakness (.5%). Other complications include leakage of spinal fluid and wound infection (1%). Most patients will have transient neck pain and stiffness from the surgical incision and from seeding of the spinal fluid with small amounts of blood. The success rate is over 90%, so you have nothing to worry about really. There are complications with all surgeries. MVD has less of a chance of causing complications then male neo-natal male circumcision and that is performed on a regular basis on baby boys in hospitals, which I wish it wasn't because it is a violation of the baby boy's human rights and is an unnecessary procedure, but that is a different discussion.

I have spoken with Dr. Janetta, the man who created this procedure, and he successfully performed MVD on a 22 month old once. So he knows what he is doing. Just make sure you find someone who is very good at performing MVD, such as Dr. Janetta. I am going to get it done in a month or so. Don't let the videos of the procedure on the internet scare you out of the doing the procedure.

I highly doubt you will experience any side-effects/complications months after the procedure. All of the complications above occur pretty close to when the procedure was done or immediately after the procedure was done.
