Tap water has things added by both the pipes in your home (which if it is an old home era 1950's or so, can be lead pipes and therefore extremely dangerous, plus gunk from older pipes that have not been cleaned or replaced, well... these things can usually be rightfully called pollutants!), AND things added by the water utility like chlorine, fluoride and whatever else they feel is needed to clean the water.

Tap water is supposedly (see below) filtered, but distilled water is the purest form of water you can get. It is usable in sterile situations usually, please be certain to check the needs of your situation.

Distilled water is just H20, nothing else, as it's been distilled by process of...distillation! Double distilled is extremely pure.

When you buy bottled water, check the source - does it come from a "municipal drinking source"? If so it is just tap water. The best waters to drink are either the Reverse Osmosis filtered waters, or glacier or spring water. Examples of these (these are trademarked names) are Fiji(R)(TM), Evian(R)(TM), etc. You can get clean water just as good from the water machines that sell them for .35 or .25 (cents) a gallon outside most grocery stores. Just bring a clean water bottle and check the machine to see that it is R/O filtered, carbon filtered, and UV sterilized. Filtration is the key to this, or the source (like the brand names mentioned). Aquafina(R)(TM), for example, comes from a municipal source, just like your tap water delivers. I don't even recall how that particular brand is filtered. My favorites are the 2 I mentioned above.

You can drink distilled water, but it's really bland and tasteless.

FACT: Tap water in Los Angeles was found to have large quantities of Prozac, Vicodin and Xanax, as a result of the filters not "looking" for those molecules and the source of these drugs was found to be sewage water, in other words, the drugs the people of LA had urinated out. Gross!! In LA, don't drink the tap water!

Would distilled water be more cohesive than salt water?

Distilled water would be more cohesive than salt water because salt water contains dissolved ions that disrupt the hydrogen bonding between water molecules, reducing cohesion. In distilled water, there are no dissolved ions to interfere with the hydrogen bonding, allowing water molecules to be more attracted to each other and exhibit greater cohesion.

What has more oxygen salt water or fresh water?

Freshwater has more oxygen than salt water but oxygen is more solublein fresh water.

What keeps plants crisper distilled water or tap water?

Tap water contains dissolved minerals that can help provide structural support to plant cells, while distilled water lacks these minerals. Therefore, tap water can potentially help plants stay crisper by providing more stability to their cells.

More oxygen will in colder water than in warmer water?

Yes, colder water can hold more dissolved oxygen than warmer water. This is because colder water molecules are more compact and can hold gases more effectively than warmer water. This is important for aquatic ecosystems as many aquatic organisms rely on dissolved oxygen for respiration.

What has the most oxygen running water or standing water fresh water or salt water?

Running water typically has more oxygen than standing water because the movement of the water helps to aerate and oxygenate the water. Freshwater usually contains more oxygen than saltwater due to differences in solubility and temperature affecting oxygen levels.

What is difference in water and distilled water?

Distilled water is more pure than tap water or seawater.

Is mineral water heavier or lighter than distilled water at STP?

Mineral water will be more dense than distilled water. The disolved material adds mass, but does not increase the volume.

Why does city water have a better affect on the growth of plants than distilled water?

it does because city water has more nutrients than other types of water and distilled water has almost no nutrients

More oxygen sea water than river water?

Oxygen is more soluble in fresh water than it is in sea water, therefore there is more dissolved oxygen in river water than sea water.

Does distilled water have a greater hypotonicity than pond water?

Tonicity of water depends on the concentration of solutes present in a water. As pond water more solutes then in distill water which either having less or negligible ammount of solutes. So distilled water is more hypotonic then pond water

What elements does distilled water contain?

In truley distilled water most foreign chemicals to water are removed but this is not always the case. While water consists of simply Hydrogen and Oxygen (H2O) other chemical elements may still be present after the distillation process, as well as some bacteria. However, distilled purified water would in most cases would contain only a very insignificant amount of any other trace chemicals. So for the most part distilled water contains simply Hydrogen and Oxygen.

How much more acidic is acid rain than distilled water?

Acid rain is typically around 100 times more acidic than distilled water, with a pH of 4-5 compared to the neutral pH of distilled water, which is around 7.

Is distilled water a mixture or a compound?

An element is just that. One of the more than 100 elements on the Periodic table. A compound is a combination of elements. Water is 2 parts hydrogen being held together by an oxygen. Therefore water is still a compound when distilled.

Does cold water or hot water hold more oxygen?

Cold water can hold more dissolved oxygen than hot water. This is because the solubility of oxygen in water decreases as the temperature increases. Therefore, cold water has the ability to hold more oxygen than hot water.
