Yes, the equator has a summer too, when the position of the sun migrates towards the tropic of Cancer and towards the tropic of Capricorn. The result of both of these is the same however, the season extremes are actually cooler than the mid-season high. Of course the effects are so slight that no one bothers to notice all that much.
