The "sciatic nerve" are actually a pair of nerves, one to the left leg and one to the right. They exit the spine in the lumbar region. The nerves tend to get inflamed by the muscles or spinal compression with pain radiating down the affected leg. Miserable....
If you look up the nervous system there are 3 places in your lower back that cause Sciatic or pinched nerve in three locations. Lower lumbar back at 3,4,5, cause pain in the left or right backside cheek, a shorter nerve. One causes pain that comes into the groin are from the backside around and up through groin. One causes the pain that runs down the outside seem of your pants and can end of in the second little toe. (next to the pinkie toe) It is called the Sciatic nerve.

The majority of nerve fibers cross from the right to the left at the level of the medulla oblongata in the brainstem. This crossing, known as decussation, occurs in structures like the pyramids in the medulla.

The sciatic nerve typically runs from the lower back down through the leg, so it wouldn't directly cause pain in the neck or arm. However, issues in the lower back where the sciatic nerve originates can sometimes radiate pain down the leg, but not usually to the neck or arm. Pain in the neck and arm may be due to separate issues such as a cervical spine problem or shoulder injury.
The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest single nerve in the human body, about as big around as a thumb at its largest point. The nerve originates in the lower spine as nerve roots exit the spinal cord (through the bones in the spine), and extends all the way down the back of the leg to the toes. The sciatic nerve is actually a combination of nerves. It is formed on the right and left hand side of the lower spine by the combination of the fourth and fifth lumbar nerves and the first three nerves in the sacral spine. Each nerve exits the spine between two vertebral segments and is named for the segment above it.

Could possibly be a sciatic nerve issue, if it only affects that side at the same time. I currently have a herniated L5 disc that is pressing upon that nerve and it gives a cramping burning sensation in my left back all the way down to my left big toe... yours doesnt sound as severe though
If the pain is sharp, and traces down the left side of the spine to the lower back, across the waist and hip, across the top of the thigh and down the inner knee, the problem is the L3/L4 disk pressing on the spinal nerve at that point. It typically sharp at the mid and lower back, and burning as it travels further, though it will occasionally be sharp all the time too. You can literally trace the nerve pathway with your finger by following the pain if it's bad enough. ---- I have this pain at the moment, I had it several years ago and it lasted for months I had a gluten intollerance test and it told me that I was intollerant to gluten, I cut out gliuten and within 2 wekd it had gone, its now come back although I dont eat anything with gluten in it. I cannot understand why the pain goes into my left lower back and left leg...anyone else get this ?

There are unmistakable symptoms for the sciatic nerve acting up. In many cases, the lower bum and leg will "give out" and you will be left limping in pain for a few days. This can be relieved by ice packs and a heating pad in alternation thirty minute intervals. Small achy, stabbing pains are also felt in minor situations, which can be dealt with by Motrin.
See a doctor. Pregancy can often cause pains and aches which are unexplainable and common, not harmful. But, still see your doctor.
