Fire was among the first sources of light and heat on Earth's surface (apart from the Sun and lightning). Fire, however, is an oxidation reaction, so actual fire would have been very limited, even in volcanoes, until the Earth had considerable free oxygen in its atmosphere. This occurred around 3.5 billion years ago when the first one-celled plants appeared. There was no coal or oil to burn, and no biomass fuels such as wood, until much later. The earliest fires would have been from heated metals in magma, when exposed to the oxygen released by early cyanobacteria in the oceans.

Did fire exist in Adam and Eve's time?

A:Fire exists whenever wood or leaves are burnt, in the same way that rainbows have always been a natural example of the prismatic effect in splitting white light into its constituents. Even when there were no people to light fires, it only needed a dry lightning strike to start a fire. So fire has existed for billions of years, as long as plants have been on earth.

How old is fire?

We controlled fire 125,000 years ago for sure and possibly 400,000 years ago (of course that was Homo Erectus). There are claims for "definitive evidence" of fire control as much as 1.7 million years ago. Of course fire itself is at least as old as the Earth, but I assume you mean how long has Man had fire.
