Well, the amount i hated college can probably only be measured on the Richter scale [& my head was both fatefully & badly concussed during the last L.A. earthquake, so I know something of Richter scales]. This wasn't, however, because of the faculty. Some of the faculty were quite interesting & worthy. It was, perhaps, because it was the eighties. That, however, cannot explain why, for the most part, I detested teaching even more. Then again, that wasn't largely because of the faculty either. In that case, however, it was because of the administration. When one is part of the whole parcel as a paid participant, everything becomes MUCH more transparent. One realizes VERY quickly that the relationships &, indeed, interrelationships between departments tend to settle entirely on the subject of money. No matter what seems to lie covered beneath, once one does the uncovering, beneath that cover is cash. Even if it looks as fussy as prestige, say, or as noble as some nonsense inconceivable as anything other than altruistic--nope. Cash. I have no idea if this answers yr question, because what that question is is something about which I am not completely certain. However, I do know that I have correctly, if heartbreakingly, answered it.
