Usually there will be lights or equipment in the house that will not operate. If all of the branch circuit breakers or fuses have not tripped or blown the only conclusion left is that the main breaker or fuse has tripped or blown.
fuse
It will "open". this will stop current flow. Most folks say you have a blown fuse or the fuse blew (blue?) which is actually incorrect.
If by meaning wire as a circuit, when turning on the circuit the fuse will blow the circuit open, or if the protection is a breaker, the breaker will trip. This is all on the conjecture that there is a return path for the current to flow. This is the main reason for ground wires on all equipment, to provide a return path for the current to flow back to the source.
it gets broken A fuse is specifically designed so that when the current exceeds its specified rating, the fuse itself fails in some way (usually, part of it melts or burns out). When the fuse "blows", the circuit is cut open, so current can no longer flow.
Copper is used in the contact points in fuse boxes because it will oxidize and you can separate the points of contact. If it was made if iron and rusted, it will 'weld' the link together and then it is no longer a fuse.
An ohm meter across the fuse will tell you whether the link is open or closed.
the fuse is labeled and located in the fuse box underneath your bonnet (hood). pull the four tabs on your fuse box cover to open, opposite side will tell you which one it is..
Open the passenger side door, and theres a fuse door there. On the back of the fuse door, it should tell you wich fuse is te lighter fuse. It's probably an accessory fuse.
In the fuse box by the battery. It'll be one of the big ones. The fuse box should tell you once you open it.
On the main fuse board when you open it there will be a diagram on the back of the lid. Look for a picture of a triangle with a ! inside. It will tell you where it is and what amp fuse you need to replace it with.

how do i open the fuse panel on a 2002 mercury mountaineer
Zero. There is no resistance on an open fuse because there is no connection between the terminals on the fuse. I beg to differ There is INFINITE resistance in a BLOWN fuse... There is ZERO resistance in a GOOD fuse.
find the fuse box it is a black plastic box you will find it eaither under the hood or in the trunk open it and you will find the fuse map wher eit will tell you which fuse is for the head light
The Supplement Restraint System fuse is your best bet. Your owners booklet should tell which fuse is which. Just pull that fuse and interrupt current to the firing system.
If you can't figure out how to open the box you should not be in there. Take this poor vehicle to the dealer and be prepared to tell the nice man why you're bringing it in.
