Since Kauai is one of the oldest Hawaiian Islands, the high iron content of the volcanic soils has had plenty of time to oxidize, especially with the wet conditions of the island. The oxidization, like rust on cars, manifests itself in the color red.

It is approximately 22 miles long and 4.3 miles deep, making it the narrowest and one of the deepest canyons on Earth. The Kali Gandaki Gorge is a result of the tectonic uplift of the Himalayas and erosion by the Kali Gandaki River over millions of years.

My family and I went to Kauai and stayed in the Bali Hai Villas. Along with staying at a beautiful resort, the island offered many day trips for my family to stay busy. With hiking trails to explore and beaches to relax, Kauai was the perfect balanced vacation. My family also went kayaking, saw the Waimea Canyon, but the best part was our tour of the Na Pali Coast. Only accessible by boat and helicopter, the Na Pali coast is one of Kauai's natural wonders. With gorgeous sights and great snorkeling, this is a day trip I would definitely recommend. Kauai is also a rain forest, so make sure to take your raincoat and be prepared for random rain showers. Don't worry, the sun will always come out afterwards!
