the ski lifts seat is placed on several different cables or wheels which are turning at different speeds.

when the seat comes to pick u up it isn't actually fixed on the cable you see, but on a steel wheel placed next to the cable. the seat will then change the place of grip ( releases from the wheel) and passes to the cable which is travelling at a higher velocity) at the arrival the same action will be done. it will again pass from the cable to a wheel, then back to the cable and then it will travel back to the bottom station.

the longer your pick up area wants to be the bigger your wheels will need to be.

apparently in some place this wheel has been replaced with another cable or chain which also creates a second parallel circuit, but the principal stays the same

Why do high speed trains slow down when they pass each other?

High-speed trains slow down when passing each other to ensure safety and reduce the impact of air pressure changes that can occur due to their high speeds. Slowing down helps minimize the pressure difference between the trains, making the passing smoother and more stable.
