How do you prevent different types of pollution?

Pollution covers a lot of ground (ok, bad pun)

Pollution to me is anything that disrupts the environment and makes it unpleasant or harmful or even toxic. It can be litter, dirt, noxious particles or gases in the air or soil or water. It can be noise.

We all wants the products of industry. A lot of industrial activity produces waste products, that is, substances that have no economic use or value themselves.

The mines around Sudbury, Ontario, produce huge amounts of nickel and significant amounts of gold, silver and other metals. They also produce vast amounts of slag which is the rock left after the metals are melted out of it. Slag is dense and heavy. It is not a good gravel aggregate to use in concrete. It is very difficult to use as a building material on its own. It makes a very good stone bed for railway tracks but the mines don't want to sell it cheap and the railroads don't want to pay much for it. So it is dumped in gigantic piles outside the smelters. When I say gigantic piles I mean square miles of rock piled a hundred feet deep or more.

To prevent air pollution, you can reduce vehicle emissions by carpooling, using public transportation, or biking. For water pollution, avoid dumping chemicals or waste into bodies of water and properly dispose of oil and hazardous materials. To prevent land pollution, reduce single-use plastics, recycle and compost, and properly dispose of waste.
