If you disassemle the a/c electric motor starter/contactor. You can find the contact points. In most cases the contact will also have a lug, or screw terminal that is cast in the same material as the contact surface itself. I've recently salvaged 36 grams of silver alloy from a 1 hp electric motor starter. I dont know the actual content of pure silver but the concentrations appears to be very high probably 90% or more.

Where is the silver in curcuit breakers?

Silver is typically found in circuit breakers as a component of the contacts. Silver is a good conductor of electricity and is used in the contacts to efficiently carry the electrical current, allowing the circuit breaker to function effectively.

Chemical symbol Ag means what?

The chemical symbol Ag represents the element silver. Silver is a transition metal with a bright, shiny appearance and is commonly used in jewelry, coins, and electrical contacts due to its high conductivity.

Is a bronze metal better than a silver one?

It depends on the specific application or use case. Bronze is typically harder and more durable than silver, making it better suited for applications where strength and wear resistance are important. However, silver has superior electrical conductivity and thermal properties, making it better for applications like electrical contacts or thermal interfaces.

What are Breaker point contacts are made of?

Breaker point contacts are typically made of a tungsten alloy or platinum for durability and to withstand the high temperatures and electrical arcing that occur during operation. These materials have good conductivity and resistance to erosion, making them suitable for the challenging conditions within an ignition system.

What are electrical outlets made of?

Electrical outlets are typically made of a combination of thermoplastics, metal contacts, and internal wiring components. The outer casing is usually made of fire-resistant materials to ensure safety during operation. The metal contacts inside the outlet provide the connection point for electrical devices.

Does solid silver conduct electricity?

Yes, solid silver is an excellent conductor of electricity due to its high electrical conductivity properties. This is why silver is commonly used in various electrical applications such as in electrical wiring, circuits, and contacts.

What is silver used in?

Silver is commonly used in jewelry, tableware, coins, and electrical contacts due to its high electrical conductivity and tarnish resistance. It is also used in mirrors, photography, and in some medical applications such as wound dressings and surgical instruments.

Do electrical contactor contacts that have silver content have any value?

Yes, if you have enough of them! The points where the electrical connection is made typically uses a silver alloy button with roughly 50% silver. If silver is at $15/ounce, you would need quite a of these "buttons" to be worthwhile to recover. Do the math!

Where can you find salvage cars for sale?

Not that easy to find a salvage car since it is rare for salvage cars to still be out on the market these days, but you could always ask your acquaintances for contacts who have salvage cars to sell.
