It depends what temperature the ice is at. If the ice is below 0 °Celsius, adding heat will increase the temperature until it reaches 0 °Celsius and then it will change the state to water, and then the temperature will start to increase again once all the ice is converted to water.
See the Web Links for a plot of heat input versus temperature as water changes from ice to water to steam.

What is heat transfer that does not cause a temperature change?

Heat transfer that does not cause a temperature change is called latent heat transfer. This occurs when heat is absorbed or released during a change in state (solid to liquid, liquid to gas) without changing the temperature of the substance.

How do you change the state of matter?

The state of matter can be changed by altering the temperature or pressure of a substance. For example, increasing the temperature of a solid can cause it to melt and change into a liquid, while lowering the temperature of a gas can cause it to condense into a liquid. Similarly, changing the pressure can also affect the state of matter.

Why does the temperature remains constant during the change of state?

During the time of change of state, the heat or temperature is used to increase the potential energy and there by change of state. This time there will be no change in temperature.

How do solids and liquids change state?

they change their state by absorbing heat known as latent heat. There is no temperature change in a substance she they change their state because the heat is used to break the intermolecular bonds between the molecule.

Why does the temperature remain constant at the transition temperature even though heating is continued?

At the transition temperature, the heat goes into causing the change in state. Once the change in state is complete, the temperature will change.

Why is latent heat called hidden heat?

The latent heat of fusion refers to the heat of fusion in reactions that involve a solid that forms a liquid, or vice versa. The latent heat of vaporization is the latent heat involving a liquid that forms a gas or vice versa.Latent means hidden or unseen. In this context, the 'latent' heat is the heat that is not detectable as a temperature change in the substance. Rather than adding kinetic energy (which is detectable as a temperature change) some heat is required to break the bonds of the solid structure.

Difference between sensible heat and latent heat?

Sensible heat is heat supplied or taken away and causes an immediate change in temperature without changing the state. While latent heat is heat supplied or taken away and causes a change in state without change in temperature. This difference can be applied to the certain properties of water/steam. This is called the thermodynamics properties of steam.

What is a latent heat energy levels?

Latent heat- the amount of heat required by a system/ substance to change phase. It's also heat absorbed or radiated during a change of phase at a constant temperature and pressure.

Sensible heat involves a change in a substance's?

Sensible heat involves a change in a substance's temperature without a change in its phase. It is the heat exchange that causes a change in the temperature of a substance but does not result in a change of state (solid, liquid, gas).

What evidence might you have that a change of state requires the use of heat of energy that would otherwise cause the temperature to increase?

You can heat ice, for example, and measure the temperature while it melts. You should notice that you heat it for quite a while, but that the temperature doesn't increase until all the ice is melted.

What effect cause matter to change state?

one of them is the heat.

What causes matter to change its state?

Temperature. Temperature causes matter to change state.
