there are 2 rovers they are called Phoenix and spirit

********************************************

Uh-Oh! Phoenix and Spirit are the names of two rovers on MARS, not our moon!

Spirit began operations in 2004, but became stuck in soft soil in 2010 and after many attempts to extricate itself and dwindling power from its solar cells finally left it unresponsive, communications were terminated in 2011. The Mars rover "Opportunity", Spirit's twin, is still active as of early 2012.

The Phoenix rover began operations in 2008, but failed to communicate after the Mars winter of 2009 - 2010 and was declared "dead" in May 2010. Photographs from the Mars orbiter "Odyssey" showed considerable damage to the rover, probably partially crushed by heavy snow and ice accumulation during the winter. The rover was not designed to survive the expected harsh winter conditions on Mars.

Another Mars rover named "Sojourner" began operations in 1997, and returned data for three months, well beyond its design lifetime. Sojourner is still on Mars.

However, the three American Lunar Roving Vehicles which each carried two astronauts on extra-vehicular explorations during Project Apollo Missions 15, 16 and 17 during 1971 through 1972 are still on the moon.

The unmanned Russian lunar rovers "Lunokhod 1 & 2" landed on the moon in 1970 and 1973 respectively, and both are still up there.

How many rovers are there in the world?

As of 2021, there are several active Mars rovers, such as Perseverance and Curiosity. In addition to Mars rovers, there are other robotic rovers deployed on celestial bodies like the Moon and other planets. The exact number of rovers in operation worldwide varies as missions launch and conclude.

How does the moon's gravity affect lunar rovers?

The vehicles used on the Moon were designed with the Moon's gravity in mind. They would not function correctly on Earth. So the answer is that the Moon's gravity affects the lunar rovers in the same way as gravity affects cars and other vehicles on Earth.... it is what keeps them on the surface, and prevents from from floating off into space.

What type of space probe is designed to move around on the surface of a moon or planet?

A rover is a type of space probe designed to move around on the surface of a moon or planet. Rovers are equipped with wheels or tracks for mobility and are controlled remotely from Earth or by onboard computers. Examples of rovers include NASA's Mars rovers like Curiosity and Perseverance.

What does a rover do in space?

Rovers are what scientists call any vehicle which travels on the surface of a moon or planet that isn't Earth. So far Rovers have landed on the Moon, and Mars. Some rovers like the Moon Buggy were just cars that were driven by astronauts so that they could travel a long way from their space ships. Other rovers such as Spirit, Discovery and every other rover which has landed on Mars are very complicated remote controlled cars with cameras, robot arms, and many other sensors. Scientists control these remote controlled rovers from Earth and use them to study the surface of Mars. Remote controlled rovers are used instead of astronauts because they don't need food, water, or air, and its alright to leave them on Mars because they don't get homesick like people

How did they get the moon lunar rover to the moon before the men landed?

The lunar rovers used on the moon were included in the lunar module, which carried them to the moon's surface. Once on the moon, the astronauts deployed the rovers to aid in their exploration of the lunar surface.

Is the lunar rover still on the moon?
