From the air. The air consists of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. The other 1% is made of argon, carbon dioxide and other gases. The oxygen is kept replenished when green plants photosynthesise. This involves the plant extracting the carbon dioxide from the air, absorbing water through its roots, and, using the green pigment chlorophyll in its leaves, convrts these two substances into sugars (its own food) and oxygen which is released into the air to replace what we have used.
