How many time zones does Mexico have?

• Most Mexican territory falls under the Central Standard Time (GMT/UMT-6), which is the same time zone of cities such as Chicago or San Antonio. Some cities on this time zone include:

  • Guadalajara
  • Monterrey

  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Acapulco
  • Veracruz

• Northwestern Mexican states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Nayarit and Baja California Sur have the Mountain Standard Time (GMT/UMT-7), which is the same time of places such as Albuquerque or Alberta, Canada. Some example cities include:
  • Mazatlan
  • Los Cabos
  • Chihuahua
  • Ciudad Juarez

• Northwestern Mexican state of Sonora is synchronized with the time of Arizona in the United States; both states have a "special" time zone, which usually falls within the Mountain Standard (GMT/UMT-7) time zone:
  • Hermosillo
  • Guaymas
  • Puerto Peñasco / Rocky Point
  • Nogales

• Westernmost state of Baja California has the Pacific Standard Time (GMT/UMT-8), which is on the same time zone of cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles or San Francisco:
  • Tijuana
  • Mexicali
  • Ensenada

Note: The Baja California Peninsula is divided into two states: Baja California and Baja California Sur. Both have different time zones.
