It's seven hours ahead. The international dateline is located just east of Japan and is the generally accepted spot of where the new day begins. If you look at most maps, you'll see it start just east of Russia, and snake (it is not a perfectly straight line) to the bottom of Austrailia.

Of course, you could say that time is all relative and Chicago is ahead of Johannesburg. You could also go even further and claim that there is no time and we are all just putting numbers to explain our bodies deteriorating.
