Jamaica is believed to have been formed from volcanoes billions of years ago. The highest elevations are in the Blue Mountains to the east 7,402 feet (2,256 meters), composed in part of ancient volcanic rock. Grenada studies done up to 2003 indicate - There are no known active volcanoes in the vicinity of Jamaica or in the Greater Antilles.
