Mauna Loa has been classed as an active volcanoe since its first recorded erruption in 1843. Between then and the 1984 erruption it has had a total of 33 eruptions. Because it is not currently erupting does not change its classification to inactive as long as there remains emmissions and earthquake activity. It has continued to display at least some activity since it was created between 600,000 and 1,000,000 years ago according to geologic studies. In the years between 1843 and today the lava flow has covered a total of 806 square kilometers.
The most spectacular modern eruption was in 1950 when lava reached the sea from the summit (15 miles) in three hours and the flow lasted for 23 days. The 1984 event released only about 30% as much lava but reached speeds of up to 700 feet per hour.
Three volcanoes are considered as active: Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai (without submarine volcanoes). Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano and many are now extinct. Because the complete list is long see the link below.

Examples are Mauna Loa, Hualalai, Kilauea.
Hualalai is located on the Big Island of Hawaii, so the people living near Hualalai include residents of the nearby towns of Kailua-Kona, Holualoa, and Waikoloa Village. Additionally, there are resorts and vacation rentals along the Kona coast where visitors stay.

Mauna Loa and Kilauea. Hualalai is listed as active but not errupting. Mauna Kea is listed as Dormant and Kohala is listed as extinct.

There are currently five active volcanoes in Hawaii. They are Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai, Mauna Kea, and Loihi. These volcanoes are closely monitored by the US Geological Survey for any signs of activity.
The most recent eruption in 1801 produced lava flows that destroyed houses and agricultural land on the western flank of Hualalai volcano in Hawaii. There were no casualties, but the damage was significant to local communities. Seismic activity and ground deformation are closely monitored to mitigate potential hazards from future eruptions.
The nearest cities to Hualalai, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, include Kailua-Kona to the south, which is approximately 15 miles away, and Waimea to the north, around 30 miles distant. Additionally, the town of Holualoa is situated just a few miles to the south of Hualalai. These towns provide access to amenities and services for visitors and residents alike.
