I have of course read much about the item of reconditioning acid lead battery by Epsom salt. My car battery was on its way of becoming bad (no longer able to attain a good specific gravity of the acid solution through charging it at home). During last charging despite using the max. current and time a sp. g. higher than 1.235 could not be attained. After adding about 15 ml of powder (dissolved in about 25 ml warm distilled water) to each cell I could bring the sp. g. to over 1.275. This fantastic rise I could never achieve before . I conclude that Epsom salt not only can be used to revive a dead acid lead battery but also prophylactically to maintain the battery in good condition and prevent its deterioration. I must also add that I by now do not know the prognosis of this practice on the long run. I was just struck by its ability to improve the battery condition so much! It is a marvellous agent.
Epsom salts, chemically known as magnesium sulfate, are inorganic compounds. They are produced through a chemical reaction between magnesium oxide and sulfuric acid. While Epsom salts can be used in organic gardening practices, they are not considered organic themselves.
Epsom salts are composed of magnesium sulfate and can be found in most drugstores and supermarkets. They are not produced by a specific brand or manufacturer, but rather are a naturally occurring mineral compound.
The electrolyte in a lead storage battery is a solution of sulfuric acid and water.
Lead dioxide on the positive electrode is reduced to lead sulfate during discharge in a lead-acid storage battery.
When a lead storage battery discharges, the concentration of sulfuric acid inside the battery increases due to the release of sulfuric acid molecules into the solution. This process is part of the electrochemical reactions that occur during the discharge process in a lead-acid battery.
Drain all of the acid from the battery. Measure 7 to 8 oz. of Epsom salts and dissolve it in 1/2 quart of distilled water that has been heated to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the Epson salt mixture to the battery, shake gently, and charge it overnight.

There is no difference between lead acid accumulator and lead acid battery.
When Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) are mixed with sulfuric acid (H2SO4), a reaction occurs where the magnesium sulfate is protonated by the sulfuric acid to form magnesium bisulfate and water. This reaction releases heat and should be handled carefully due to the corrosive nature of sulfuric acid.
Mixture of epsom salt and distilled water. Mix 8 ounces of epsom salt in one quart of 150 degree distilled water. Drain fluid from battery and replace with saltwater mixture. Charge battery on the slowest charge setting you can with the vent caps removed.
sulfuric acid and lead.
Your car battery is a "lead-acid" battery. I'm not sure where you might haveheard about Epsom salt, but that's an easy and effective way to completelyruin the battery for good. If the battery is not sealed and you have accessto the cells, then when a cell gets low ... meaning the tops of the plates aresticking out above the surface of the liquid ... then you add distilled waterONLY to bring it up just over the top of the plates, and nothing else.

Water is required in a lead acid battery.
Was: the composition of epsom salt is magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid Should be: Epsom Salts are Magnesium sulfate, usually with some water attached to it. Magnesium hydroxide is a base, hydrochloric acid is an acid. When Hydrochoric acid is not in water, it's a gas at normal temperatures - thus not able to be made into a dry powder. Acid + Base = salt + water. In this case it would make Magnesium Chloride + water.
