Lines of latitude in the northern hemisphere have a positive latitude or are designated with "N" for North. Likewise, lines latitude in the southern hemisphere have a negative latitude or are designated with "S" for South. For example, the continental US (not including Hawaii and Alaska) is contained within the lines of latitude at 25 N and 50 N.
