A debatable question!
Einstein gave the equation E=mc2 so that the atomic energy can be measured and used for solving the energy crisis. He didn't even thought that his equation may lead to the devastation of two cities (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and create a potential threat to the mankind. Though we can generate a very large amount of energy from nuclear reactions they still possess a danger. Would you like to live near a Nuclear Power Plant?

Major scientific developments took place in the post Second World War period which also witnessed the Cold War between USA and USSR. That means, majority of the scientific developments took place for warfare purposes.

Another thing, the development of computer made man lazy, weakened his physical abilities, reduced his vision and overall made him think less. We use mobile phones so that at any corner of the world we can talk with our friends and relatives just to tell them that you suffer from cancers due to radiation from mobile phones themselves.

Scientific developments are much worthy of many things. But it is us who always make their negative side. Scientists, researchers, technologists, etc. work hard for human development. E.g., computers have fastened our human pace of development, mobile phones made us to contact for help during an emergency, etc.

But it's still remains a question to be given a perfect answer!
