A typhoon is a tropical storm that occurs in the Northwest Pacific Ocean. It is a cyclone that occurs most often between the International date line and the equator. The legend of the typhoon dates back to the Greek Gods when a Typhon was the most feared God in Olympus until Zeus threw 100 lightening bolts at him and knocking him off Mount Olympus.

What is the legend of typhoon?

Typhon is the most feared monster/god in Olympus. In anger with Zeus, Hera went to Gaia(Earth) and Tartarus(a stormy, bottomless pit of agony), and asked them to produce a god more powerful than Zeus. Thus, Typhon was born. He was so enormous that he touched the stars. Two enormous snakes coiled around his legs, hissing and trembling every time he moved. Instead of five fingers on each if his hands, he had 100 snakes on each. Typhon's head supported hundreds of snake heads that would scream and shout sounding like many different animals. His eyes glowed deadly red pushing fear into the hearts of people who ever looked at him. He blew fire from his mouth. There were hundreds of wings around his body. His mate was Echidna. Together, they were the mother and father of all monsters. Their children were the Nemean Lion, Ladon, the Hydra, Cerberus, the Chimera, and the Sphinx. He was defeated only by Zeus. When he picked up Mount Aetna to hurl at the Olympians, Zeus threw a hundred thunder bolts at Typhon and the mountain fell back on the monster burying him underneath. But Typhon still blows lava and fire out of the mountain top. This legend explains the nature of volcanoes for the ones that did not understand it in Ancient Greece.
